After years (and years and years) of folks asking if you can add my scented oils to your hair or body (no tf you may NOT!), I finally listened and crafted a body oil for melanated skin just like yours. I had to take my time, test it out, and get it perfectly right. #AquariusVirgoShit
The wait is finally over.

As we begin to slide from peak-summer roasting temperatures into that breezy “windows-down” transitional season, skin can get confused AF — sun, AC, hot showers, and cooler nights – all this weather madness can pull moisture out of melanated skin fast (classy to ashy real quick).
This Hello, Sunshine Nourishing Body Oil is my lightweight, fast-absorbing answer to ‘it’s too hot to skip moisturizing but not quite yet cool enough for a heavy body butter’ designed to seal in hydration and keep your glow soft, even, and touchable. I designed the Bye, Ashy! Creamy Whipped Body Butter to dry down greaseless because I HATE greasy residue in my moisturizer. HAAAAAATE that shit 🙄. But the body butter's made of thick heavy butters and even thicker, heavier oils and this summer, that was just too much for how hot it was. I needed somethin’ lighter, and I figured you did too.
So I swapped some of the heavy oils out, mixed in a few essential oils, added a light fragrance I’d secretly fallen in love with, and some beard oil I'd already made but never launched, and this delicious body oil was born. I instantly knew I wanted to share it with you because Friend, come look what I did!
What’s Inside & Why It Matters (especially for melanated skin)
-
Avocado oil – rich in oleic acid and vitamins A, D, E. Great for softening rough patches and helping replenish lipids after sun and soap.
-
Grapeseed oil – light, high in linoleic acid; helps support the moisture barrier without heaviness. Many folks who get body breakouts prefer it because it feels breathable.
-
Jojoba oil – technically a wax ester that’s similar to natural sebum; helps balance the feel and reduces that tight, dry look melanated skin sometimes shows after bathing.
-
Sweet almond oil – classic emollient that improves slip and glow; lovely for those itchy, dry “season change” days.
-
Vitamin E – antioxidant support for stressed skin and helps keep the blend fresh.
None of these oils will “lighten” your skin but they *will* reduce water loss, boost that softness, and enhance skin radiance, which is why the tone looks more even and healthy. All this vitamin and nourishment is chef’s kiss to keep the skin SKINNING.
Two Scent Moods
-
Audacity — bright, sun-kissed, clean-skin energy (think citrusy, sparkling, fresh). Everyday, everywhere, bold and unapologetic.
Pairs beautifully with: I Love Us and the Unscented body butters (those warm vanilla vibes love Audacity’s airy lift). You could try it with Run Me My Coins but the strawberry in that is strong so they might clash. Try it and see! -
Beard Gang — warm & smooth: mahogany coconut, sandalwood + suede, a whisper of sweet tobacco, and top-shelf bourbon.
Pairs best with: Beard Gang, I Love Us, and the Unscented body butters.
(If you’re a mixer/layerer, layer oil first on damp skin, then a thin layer of butter to lock it in. when you step outside and somebody tries to bite you because you smell like a snack, you can thank me with cash app.)
How To Use It
After the shower, don’t towel all the way dry. Apply 4–6 drops to damp skin, massage until absorbed, then seal with your favorite body butter if you want extra plushness. Morning or night, year-round, whatever weather.
FAQs
1) Will the body oil make me greasy?
Nope! Hello, Sunshine is formulated specifically to be lightweight and fast-absorbing so it doesn’t stain your clothes or take forever to dry down. Apply to damp skin and use less than you think you need, you can always add more if you need to. The finish is a soft glow, not a slip-n-slide.
2) Can I use it if I’m prone to body acne? Will it break me out?
Everyone’s skin is different, but grapeseed and jojoba are generally considered lighter, “non-heavy” options. Start with a small amount on a test area for a few days. If your skin likes it, you’re good.
3) Oil vs. body butter — which do I use first?
Use oil first on damp skin to replenish lipids and reduce water loss. If you want extra cushion, follow with a thin layer of body butter. In humid weather, oil alone may be plenty (I’m looking at yall in Florida, ATL, and Texas!).
4) Can I use it on my face or hair?
It’s made primarily as a body oil. For hair, a drop or two on your ends or to break any cast is fine. For face, patch test first and only if your skin already enjoys these oils. If you have sensitive skin, or you know your face doesn’t like anything with scent, don’t use it in ANY of those sensitive areas because it does contain fragrance. This is your warning! Do NOT call me from the ER!
5) How long does a bottle last?
With daily use (4-6 drops/day), it took me just over a month to get to the bottom so… 4–6 weeks. Some of yall be slathering and bathing in products though so it really depends on you. Heavy handed layering or full-body massages, you know you’ll move through it faster so just get two bottles.
Why you’ll care about any of this later (not just today)
-
Seasonal shifts = more transepidermal water loss. Keeping a simple lipid layer on the skin helps your barrier stay calm and your melanin look buttery, not chalky.
-
Smell-good that layers with your current skin care ritual: pick a scent mood, match your butter, and your fragrance trail just got a whole lot smarter and smell-good-er. People WILL stop to sniff you. Don’t call me from jail because you had to fight people off of you. I can’t help you.
